I started up a petition so please use this link to sign the petition, we need many signatures. This will be used to help fight for the proper treatment of pain.

This will be sent to the proper people.

PAIN PATIENTS FOR PROPER TREATMENT

STOP HARASSING DOCTORS, PHARMACISTS & THE CHRONIC PAIN PATIENTS It Is Time For Our Government To Protect America's Most Vulnerable Citizens Government has failed to address the needs of the patients in pain. Over 50 million Americans needlessly suffer from disabling pain. Patients in the worst pain, those with the highest dose requirements, cannot get care because their doctors are afraid of prosecution from the DEA, Federal & Local Government, Police, etc..

Ruggie I just signed it and am going to send that site to others in my family. I just wonder if they will have to have a different IP address to sign it because it says you can not sign on behave of others. I know my in-laws use the same computer and so do a lot of other family members. Of course dh is spoiled and has his own computer! LOL

I'm very glad to see someone take the action that I was thinking about doing... but wasn't sure who to send it to or how. Any of you that feel the same way, forward that link to your friends or anyone that you know has a family member in chronic pain. Let's use this internet! Thanks for starting this and please keep us informed when it gets enough signatures to submit, and can it keep going even after that!

I have started an activism board as well and I really need a lot of people to join that board because we have to make a difference now, we cannot let the DEA tell he doctors how to practice medicine and we cannot allow the DEA to keep doctors from under treating the chronic pain patients anymore, I should have done this a long time ago but I didn't. The more members who join the site the better chance we will have with this fight for the proper treatment of pain, we have to put a stop to this, our rights as chronic pain patients are being taken away faster and faster right now. For every 1 doctor either investigated or/indicted another 400 to 500 are scared to treat the legit pain patient. I have sections in there to post about how your doctors treat you and how we are treated at pharmacies as well, I need people to post their experiences whether good or bad because that is what may help us when it comes to the media shedding a better light on the CP'er.

Thanks everyone, but remember I cannot do this alone and we need many people to fight for the proper treatment of pain. we also need to tell our stories of why we had to turn the Internet for pain relief and shed better light on the OCS's that help us live a somewhat normal life.

It is time to fight for our rights as the chronic pain sufferer before it's too late.

Ruggie.....what is the password to log on and see the results? Do I have to set that up somehow?

I signed and added a thoughtful, well written comment (in my humble opinion) about how I am a middle aged business executive with chronic pain from TWO separate conditions. I have been under-treated, or not treated, for pain by local physicians.

I stated that I have had longer and more productive consultations with online physicians that I have had with my local doctors.

I added that I do NOT wish to be included in the group of "diverting, drug-seeking" people. I asked "them" (the DEA and others) to identify, isolate, and focus on THAT population rather than on ME and many others LIKE ME.

Without the pain relief I receive from an online service, I could not work. I could not pay taxes. I would have a very poor quality of life.

I only hope I do not harm my career by signing it - that is my fear, since of course I used my real name and city, etc.

Where will this go exactly? I am in full support - just wondering?????

No susieq56 if anyone could log on and look at it all then it would take away the others privacy, after all anyone who signs this is most likely using their real names and I don't think anyone wants their real names known by everyone else who may want to view the petition, it is all a matter of privacy for the people who sign the petition.

But it will go to the right people when there are enough signatures on the petition.

Hey Ruggie--

this is a great thing. with what i about to say next, please don't think i'm trying to hijack this post, but....

if anyone wants to weigh in on this issue in an anonymous way, please consider the upcoming NIH survey. many of the issues that suzie identified will be specifically addressed. it is online, anonymous--in fact, we CAN'T know who participates--and all survey answers are pooled, so all data is de-identfied. Everyone please consider participating.

Please do not shoot the messenger on this one, but it needs to be addressed. Knowlege is power and I prefer informed consent.

Just be careful in all of this. You all remember Skip Baker? He really put himself out there for this issue, for years. He ran a site that even published the names of compassionate doctors by state, who would write for opiates if the condition warranted. Notice Skip is no longer around the net anymore? It's been claimed that the powers that be made his life and that of his wife's miserable. People who have written their representatives have had their letters with name and addresses forwarded on to Karen Tandy.

I still believe we must band together and fight against this war on pain patients and health professionals but we must do it in massive numbers because there really is safety in numbers.

Did you see my post about the conference the NIH will be sponsoring in March? I think they have made their position on the prescribing of opiates pretty clear and it's not good for CP patients.

You said it, it is going to take a lot of many many people to even get any atention on this issue and we want to shed good light on the CP'er and get the media to stop the negative attention on the CPer's.

I signed and my message was not that nice, but it was to the point:

CP sufferers are not the reason for diversion in this country or for crime - they are the reason the country is running smoothly. They go to work everyday and raise their children and support the economy because they are finding a way to have their pain treated appropriately...you are targeting the wrong people!

i didn't see your post, but i know about the conference. i'm not sure it is bad for CPers. i think one interpretation is that there are a number of ways to look at the issues surrounding chronic pain; the NIH tries to take a broader view of the isssue, certainly a broader view than the DEA. since the NIH is filled with scientists, they want data. if anyone doesn't like the current situation, then provide data that demonstrates how opioids have produced benefit. i would suggest the following: create a situation where the scientists of NIH are helpless before the truth; if opioids have helped, say that. if brick-and-mortar doctors suck, say that. but not providing data will certainly NOT help improve things.

just something to consider.

This survey has been "upcoming" for quite some time now. When exactly will the "upcoming" time finally be? My apologies if I don't sound friendly (I am) but seriously, people will lose interest in it soon. I'm sure most everyone will be more interested in an anonymous survey at this point and it would receive many more participants.

yeah, i know. the reality is that i started talking about the survey back in the fall in the hope of a long, slow buildup, and things took off FAR faster than i anticipated. we are really close to getting the thing put into web-based format, but that takes time (we have to work out the bugs). so for now, it is still upcoming, and i have to build enthusiasm all over again. sorry about that.

Ruggie has seen a preliminary version of it, so she can verify that things have actually moved forward. besides, drawing her back into this thread will allow her to redirect it--it really was not my intent to hijack it.

I signed and left a comment on what cracks downs by the DEA and federal government mean to me a mother of 2 small boys. I take pain meds NOT to get high but to function and take care of my little boys and maintain some quality of life.

I hope many many people sign because petitions like these really do make a difference when people get behind them.

Thank you, the more people that sign the better, there are over 48 million Americans in chronic pain and 1/2 under treated, I want to reach out to all of them as well which will happen with media involved as soon as the advocacy board gets bigger with people who really want to fight for their rights to proper treatment, the treatments are there but the DEA does not them used, the controlled substance act needs to be re written as well, it does lump the CP'er in with the plain addict.

SICK OF BEING TREATED LIKE A CRIMINAL BECAUSE I’M SICK !!!!!!!!! Just a vent there.

I wrote a long post stating my own problems but it really doesn’t matter, we’re all still in the same boat. This kind of wound up being a long post because I’m not up to posting very often, sorry.

Petition? Personally, I really don’t think it would work, but I will look into signing it anyway, bit afraid to give my name & address though, esp. after reading about Skip. I’ve lost so much already. I just want peace & have a somewhat normal life.

What Barelythere wrote about Skip Baker (see http://www.cpmission.com/main/skipbaker.html )
“It's been claimed that the powers that be made his life and that of his wife's miserable. People who have written their representatives have had their letters with name and addresses forwarded on to Karen Tandy. I still believe we must band together and fight against this war on pain patients and health professionals but we must do it in massive numbers because there really is safety in numbers.”

What’s it going to take? In my opinion…
THE POWER OF THE PRESS & NATIONAL NEWS!! That is the tough part. Since the press is controlled by the government, who will have the stones to take up the battle flag? All this is big, easy money to the DEA. Gotta have an excuse to keep their jobs…but I digress.

Ok, some ideas - Let’s write up a letter that we can send to newspapers local TV stations across the country stating something to the effect of: Come interview me. This is what’s happening & no one cares or is doing anything about it. This is happening not only to average people, but the elderly in nursing homes. It’s very likely this will effect yourself or someone you love eventually… Whether to remain anonymous will be up to you. I think it would be a bit more effective to remain anonymous “for fear of harassment by law & government”.

Maybe write to every major collage campus & get students to do a study on REAL CP sufferers & what they go through? How did other grassroots’ organizations get their start? How was Prohibition finally repealed? What did people do? We need MASS ATTENTION on this. Anything to bring light to this horrible situation. Maybe we need a TV show like “Intervention“. Let’s bring some hidden cameras into our Dr.’s offices (the BS) and pharmacies (the whispers) & let others know how we’re treated.

Ruggie, I think your right up there with Rosa Parks & I would love to meet you in person someday, as with all of you. This has gone on too long & I’m sick of being treated like I’m less than dirt because I’m in pain. Imagine the outcry if we were being tortured in a foreign country? IS THIS ANYTHING LESS THAN TORTURE?????? NO!!!!!

Just on an end note - http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/asap/DEADLYM.htm and that’s from 1997 !!!
We’ve ALL got to get together on this.
"Many things are worse than death. One of them is losing the last of your dignity." Pain patient of Dr. Kevorkian

Rant over.
