hi I'm new to the boards but just wondered if i can buy these from a pharmacy in france or spain as i live in england and it would be reasonably easy for me to travel there (can do a day trip to france). None of these are available here and pretty much all meds are strongly controlled, any answers would really be appreciated thanks 
Also i'm reasonably up to date with whats available here and also live opposite a chemist so if i can help anyone whowants to know about english chemists I'm quite happy to try and help, thanks again

insomniac club too think you can buy zoplicone in spain (think its called lunesta there) but not sure and i read somewhere on these boards that you can buy some meds in france but think it may be at the pharmacists discretion...be handy to actually have a list of available products ........bet you can get a list of uk restricted stuff easier !!!!

the only thing i can tell you is that i was in paris about ten yrs ago.i went to a drug store and asked for sominex..it was sold behind the counter..i thught that was kind of odd because here in the states you just go down to the aile and pick it up..anyways i took it that night and i slept like a baby..it was much stronger then the ones they sell here in the states..i kept going to differant drug stores so i had some to bring home..now that was a long time ago ..but i swear tier sominex knocked me out..the stuff they sell here does nothing for me...angelica..

If you have a US prescription for Xanax or Valium, bring it with you to France. Almost all of the pharmacies will sell either to you, even w/ just a Valium prescription. And you can go to the next pharmacy as well if you need more. OTC? Might be hard.
Be polite and try to speak French.
Same deal in Italy FYI.
Re Spain, I do not know. But, a LOT of codeine is made and shipped from there! Again, it might work best if you bring a prescription (or the bottle). OTC? Hmm, I don't know. If you try, again, speak Spanish if possible and be real polite.

hi , I live in England and the NHS doctors here are very reluctant to prescribe sleeping medication or any valium type medication so I dont have a prescription, think I've got an old bottle though and I only speak english lol

You might try telling your NHS doctor you are going to America (or wherever) soon, and you really HATE (fear) flying..., especially if you DO. That might get you a prescription for Xanax or Valium. Even if you just ask him/her for, say, 4 pills (for your trip) then bring along the paper or the bottle to France. Then be nice to the pharmacists, and you will get what you want. LOTS of pharmacies. Buy by the box (20 pills?).

I have had some bad luck with IOP's from Spain. Not saying that they are all bad but the one that got me really stuck it to me. Supposed to recieve Perc's and got something that was not even codeine. I should have had them tested at a lab or something. Pretty sure that would cost even more money though. They already took me for $200

I think thats because in spanish they sell neopercodan which you would think are percs from the name..they are far from it. Find out the spanish names and what they really are before you go.

You can buy Limovan 7.5 mg 30 pills(zopiclone)in Spain OTC for 5. I've seen online pharmacies selling 90 pills for $199.

It may be possible to get the Z drugs OTC there. And I think you can get tabs of 20 mg pure codeine otc... Don't quote me on that though.

I know they sell cough syrup with it in it in a lot of foreign countries OTC. Australia and the UK being 2 of them.

Sominex is totally nonsens (sorry, angelica2). You get it everywhere. it is diphenhydramin an old anti-allergic med. You can by it in Germany from 100 pharmas. No sleep, only a dry mouth next day. forget it.

Those are by prescription only in those countries but...
If you look like a "serious and responsible" person to the pharmacist they will not have a problem to sell you small quantities of Zolpiden/ Ambien or equivalent...
You will need a lot of luck, a convincing personality, and a real good story to find a pharmacist willing to sell you Alprozalam/ Xanax without a prescription...

I promised awhile ago I would let you all know about what you can get in France and Italy. I have a RECEIPT from prescriptions from my US doctor (that is, the papers I have are what the pharmacy gave me after I picked up my prescriptions -- both from CVS and an independent pharmacy).
OK, I do unerstand that this mainly applies to tourists or travelers to Europe, so...
France: no problem re Xanax or Valium, though I DID have the above mentioned papers. Alas, I was hoping to buy DHC (brand Dicodin in France), but the pharmacy told me NO. It is specially controlled, and you have to see a French doctor, etc. Well, I just wanted what I could get without doctors (in foreign languages, etc.), so I settled for my X and V. And, you can go to other pharmacies as well, they do not take away your paper receipts....
Italy: pretty similar although a bit more relaxed. The 2 exceptions being that you can only get 0.5 mg Xanax and 5 mg Valium (they do not have the larger doses).
Bottom line: if you have a paper, you can get the above 2 meds in either country. Just be nice to pharmacist and try to speak as much of the language as you can. If for whatever reason one pharmacy says 'No', just walk down the block to the next....

From my experiences in Spain, some codeine products were OTC, but Valium and Xanax were not. If you go to http://www.realmedicals.com and look what they offer, their price structure basically breaks down the availability of the drugs in question. The more expensive they are (e.g. Codeisan), the more difficult it is to get OTC. As the admin stated, sometimes it depends on who you are and which pharms you ask. In touristy areas, you're outta luck. In smaller and blue-collar towns, if you're Spanish is good and you look serious you might have better luck. (although I hear they are becoming more strict) Make sure you ask by the products' specific name, not just, "Can you buy codeine OTC in this country?"
When I was there I was buying Cod-Efferelgan which are basically T3's that are effervescent. The government's health plan makes the pharms regulate the prices equally across the country at a very affordable rate, about 3 Euro for 20! http://www.realmedicals.com charges about 25 times this amount, but they provide a service that most wont.
It really enlightened me about how messed up our medical system was. I got an ear infection while I was there and went to a doctor. They had no cashier to accept payment! It was free (Just like in the Michael Moore movie Sicko)! They did have a hard time with paperwork as I wasn't a citizen and when they got flustered I kept offering to pay and that was never an option. I then went to the pharmacy and bought #24 Amoxicillin 1000MG (effervescent) for less than 3 Euro! I did not need a prescription for the antibiotic, but they did make me speak with the head pharmacist to be sure that I had taken in before and for what I would be using it to treat. In the states, an ear infection would be $100+ for an office visit and $20 for the meds without insurance (which I currently do not have).
We (USA) could learn a LOT from the way other countries treat their ill.

Nothing is free..what people like to forget is that Europeans pay through the nose for health care in the form of higher taxes.

Well, I am back in Europe again. This time in France and Spain.
France was easy re Valium (if you have the recepit from the US pharmacy), about 50% declined to sell me Xanax with a diazepam script. But, 50% would! Be nice and try to speak French.
SPAIN is a big disappointment. Must get a local doc. Tough to beat the new system. So it goes.

There are no benzos otc in spain, I can tell you that. I heard france has some nice other things you can get otc but I don't know.

My sources tell me that France, Belgium (more benzos per head of population than any other country) and Portugal are the places to go for pharmacy-bought meds which would normally require prescription.
