Tiades, I went to the Provigil.com website & I want to try that med! I doubt any doctor would script it though & a few posters have said it's super expensive. I sounds great though.
I told my doctor just that "I'm sick & tired of being sick & tired"! LOL!!! He told me I was depressed & tried to scrpt me an anti-depressant. I need a "new" approach!

Right now I take Norco, Soma/carisoprodol, AmbienCR, amitryptiline (low 25mg to sleep), xanax when I need it and Valium and you 'think' that's all? GULP! while I am not questioning your need for all these meds, I can certainly see why you feel sick and tired! are you able to cross any of these meds off your list? they are all downers. are you really wanting to add yet another med to this list, albeit of the 'energizing' type?
coffee and protein for breakfast, lots of water and B-complex or even B-12 shots really help, but require enough self-discipline that I don't follow my own advice. (only the coffee, of course)
I would sure be leery of adding provigil in there. I am sure that if there were any way you could streamline your needs to simply norco and valium, you would have done that by now.
you know the more I read your post, the more I think you are just putting us on...

Tiades,
I told my doctor just that "I'm sick & tired of being sick & tired"! LOL!!! Irish Yes I think you need to put that another way. Unfortunitaly the saying "I'm sick & tired of being sick & tired" Is also a motto of some AA groups, and NA groups. So if your doctor has been around a while she's probably heard it used that way. Thats not to say in any means, that the saying reflects on to you in that manor, but it has been said to many doctors before in an unfavorable light. Maybe if you could word that differently, the doctor's mind wouldn't wonder in the wrong direction. ( of course thats just a guess, but might be worth a try IMO.) good luck on finding the right solution.
I had no idea! How embarassing! I never suggest medication to him though & he's been my doc for many years. But I have seen him sooo many times & can't get him to take some of my medical problems seriously! I don't take many meds, but do take xanax, & I know all to well the "stigma" attached to this med.
He did order some tests though & documented some other tests to be done in the near future. So I hope to see some diagnosis coming soon! If not, I think I'll have to move on. Thanks so much for your concern!

I just wanted to add that with my Fibro, it's more than pain & fatigue. I am so exhausted, that some day's I can't get out of bed. You just can't describe it. It's like your whole body is made of lead. Shoot sometimes I'm to tired to read the board.
It's really terrible. I know a pill isn't the answer, but sometimes I wish I had something to give me a boost.

anyone taking hydro long term must also consider that they have become anemic...it is a supposedly "rare" side effect of hydro use, but I am anemic and so is my friend who also takes hydro. Anemia can make you feel very tired indeed. I take multi-vitamins now and that has helped, Although OP, I agree with scruf that your combo of meds would definitely make anyone feel tired and lifeless.

If you are a female, get your thyroid checked. It is one of the most commonly overlooked female problems and if it is not working properly can wreak havoc on your energy levels among other things. I take B-12 and I can tell if I run out for a week or so.

Irish
For some reason all Doctors want to script everyone an "antidepressant" and think that is the solution?????? Like I told my dr., when I went it with anxiety & other issues, "I AM NOT DEPRESSED".....he said, "Oh, but it will help you", I said "Will it calm my nerves within 5 minutes"? He giggled and then FINALLY wrote me what I needed....
It is SO HARD to find a Doctor who doesn't mind giving you what you NEED! Most want to go around all the drugs they know will work and prescribe these "new drugs" that only make matters worse....anyways, sorry, if I got off topic, again, just wanted to express some thoughts.

Provigil is for narcolepsy. It is an amphetamine, not sure why anyone would just want to "try" it. It is scripted a lot in my area though for people who work third shift at the plants because their bodies never really adjust.

Provigal is NOT an Amphetamine. It's great for help staying awake. I use it for Fibromyalgia.

You're right, it s a stimulant I now understand that has less side affects and anxiety than amphetamines and is considered a nice alternative. I guess. Sorry.I made the huge mistake of repeating what I had been told and not double checking it. I meant that I have enough anxiety so who needs amphetamines.so sorry I will

for some reason doctors feel that anti-depressants aren't addictive which means that they are "good" drugs even if they are ineffectual. I have a friend who had to shop around to get klonopin prescribed because he knew what worked for his issue; he is far from a "druggie," jeesh this whole anti-drug feeling among the medical professionals as well as LE is freakin crazy; why even bother developing drugs to combat pain and anxiety? why not suggest the legal drug that people have used for millenia to dull pain and comfort them; I mean booze of course. No prescription needed! Unfortunately, Booze will rot your organs, and if you drive on it you are likely to kill yourself or someone else; then there is that pesky problem of alcohol induced domestic violence, but hey, you can walk in to any corner store and buy as much of it as you like no questions asked (even the, god forbid, children can get it easily since it is so available.)

There is some very good advice given, thanks guys & gals!
Sometimes I think my fatigue is hormone related. I've had some level of general fatigue or malaise since high school. Now that I'm "older" & have Fibro it's debilitating to put it mildly.
But how do you tell your doctor you've been tired your entire adult life! Even when I was in the best shape of my life, I was always fatigued. I had more stamina & was able to force myself to excercise, but still ALWAYS tired.

Thanks for the put down scruff and r23k4u.
My feelings are very much hurt for you accusing me of 'putting you on'. I am an honest and sincere person whom you don't even know. How can you judge me when I reach out for help and advice? I'm really upset right now. I though you weren't supposed to pick on people on this site.
Lastly, I'd like to say that I know that AA/NA catch phrase because my mom was in and out of drug/alcohol treatment for quite a few years as I was growing up. She's been clean and sober for over 17 years now, and I am not an addict. I think that skipped me and went to my sister.

tiades don't sweat the comments; you have gotten mostly friendly and good advice here; let me assure you that most of us don't bite! Anyway, I would get my thyroid tested and get tested for anemia. You might start takng a multivitamin to see if that helps. Personally I take about 10 different drugs a day myself including 2 types of pain meds, 2 antidiabetic drugs, lipitor, etc. So many of us are on multi drugs...
Irish, as far as always having low energy...oh god me too! Always, and I've always had screwed up hormones so maybe my low energy problem is related to that (I have had my thyroid tested and it is fine.)

I might also add, that certain drugs, sleep aids and like, CAN build up in the fatty tissues and may contribute to a constant feeling of drowsiness, so DON'T underestimate what the combination of the specfic drugs that you take is contributing to your tired feeling.

Be grateful your not a dumb-arse like me! I had NO CLUE that "sick & tired" statment was an AA & NA "thing"! I'm ready to call my doc right now & beg for forgivness for my ignorance! LOL! I'm still dying over that one!

Have you ever seen an endocrynologist (help nephro ). I have a friend who probably wouldn't have her kids without one or much less the energy to care for them.

I have my gynie check up tomorrow! I also will have blood work done. I've had gestational diabetes with each pregnancy so my doc likes to keep an eye on me. I'll bring up the thyroid test issue too.
Thanks for those of you that left kind words and good advice!
