Some of us have big families, tons of friends, a great job, lots of money and feel the way you feel. I live in the middle of 8 million other individuals and feel more alone here then when I lived in a town of a couple hundred. Feelings will come and go it’s how you react to them that matters. If you take the time and look at the positives in your life you may feel a little better. If these feelings persist you should probably go see a psychiatrist and get some help.If something crappy happened to you lately your supposed to feel a little bummed out. I'm always around here and most people on this forum would be willing to help in any way they/I can. So cheer up you got us.

I also suffer from depressive and anxiolytic episodes from time to time, and can definitely relate. Sometimes it seems that the mental pain experienced from this state of being is worse than the physical pain that precipitates it. I tell ya what, though, as soon as I log in here I begin to feel better. We have an unparalleled wealth of information at our disposal here, and the network of people I've read, learned, and shared with has had an immediate impact in my life (which is of course a positive one $\:\)$ ) In a very short time-frame, I've come to realize that not only am I not alone, I'm surrounded by kind souls suffering from the same afflictions as myself (even if they're clinically different). Ultimately, in complex times such as the one we find ourselves in, it is exactly this kind of atmosphere that those of us who are confused need to retain some semblance of sanity. Personally, my wife and family cannot understand my pain issues, and I get tired of unloading all of my worries and troubles upon their already burdened shoulders. No one wants to feel helpless to save the ones they love. So now I come here and complain to all of you....LOL! Thanks all for the support and tjaisv--keep your head up to the best of your ability, and remember that you've got people here who are more than willing to lend a helpful ear. I take meds daily for depression and it helps keep the black moods away. I hope you can get some good help and don't be afraid to try anti depressents. Depression just doesn't go away overnight like I wish it would. After two years on prozac and wellbutrin with the occasional klonopin I really felt like I was getting out of my funk. Then a bomb was dropped on me last week. My sister (35 years old) was diagnosed with breast cancer. The only reason she found out was because she was pregnant. They were able to operate and remove the lump from her right breast but she can't get her lymph nodes taken out because of the unborn child. Needless to say, this has made my mother go crazy. I hate to blame my depression on my mother but she was a big part of it. Now with my sisters condition, my mother has become unbearable. I recently lost my job and decided to head back to school so I am once again dependent on my parents. My mother is now hounding me about finding a job again. She hounded me last year so I got a job as a concession manager at the Texas Rangers ballpark. I was expecting it to be a rather stress free job but it wasn't. I finished the season and told myself I wouldn't be going back next year. My mother is of the opinion that no one likes their job. Well, I've worked enough crappy jobs that I refuse to settle for another crappy one. Working a crappy stressful job is not something I am willing to do anymore. My depression started because of the stress from a different job I had and I will not let it happen again. It's not worth it to me to always be worrying and stressed. I really feel my health has declined because of my depression. Anyway, thats my situation and it sucks. It probably doesn't sound too bad but for me, its terrible.

Now that's depression. All Kidding aside, depression goes right along with chronic pain and stress does too. Both of these are killers and non-healers for your personal health. Myself personally I find group therapy can be very rewarding but it is also good to do a one on one with a professional. The main thing is depression is like pain it is a warning that something is wrong. Don't be embarresed about your problems. I'm sure you will find out you are not the first with what ever problems you are having. I know people whose lives seem fine, yet they have unexplainable depression. I started taking celexa a few months ago and don't really feel any different, but I know it is working. I'm surprised to find myself singing for no reason, smiling more, having more patience, and being nicer to my 'beginning dementia mean mom with a sense of entitlement that I have to do everything for'. (oops, guess that is still a sore spot!) other people can tell a difference much more than I can. elgatoloco, I agree, life is too short to spend 8-10 hours a day in a stressful job that you hate. I have always changed jobs somehow when I find myself dreading going to work. perhaps a change in meds would help? it is hard not to be rocked and swayed by the situations life throws at us, medicated or not. hope everything turns out ok.

Like many things in psychology, the question is: is it affecting your daily life? Is it affecting the quality of your life? Many of these things are a matter of degree. We all have, for example, fears/phobias. It's when they begin to affect your life (job, marriage, relationships, etc...) that it becomes a problem. I walked away thinking you said whistling instead of singing. I left my apartment to buy my weekly allotment of Sunkist (15x2L) and the thought of you breaking out into a melody just made the right side of my lip curl towards the sky. I know you have mentioned it before, but did not record it in my head, nor does it matter to me. I did not pick the song it picked me. I don't know many songs that work well to a whistle (whistle while you work). I intended no ill will at all only my personal gratitude for your sincerity above. Funky - I drink 2 liters+ each day of Sunkist. I know that it sounds childish/disgusting, but it goes with breakfast lunch and dinner. I am really thirsty because I smoke 1 pack a day (my filthy habit).

Everything in my life is great right now too, couldnt ask for more if i tried, yet I'm stuck in a rut and down.. Go figure..

I certainly can relate.. as others here have mentioned, chronic pain & depression can go hand in hand... I've found different ways, to make the blues go away, such as: one on one therapy, along with support groups to help me out of my funk..crank up some great music and just chill, or sometimes just sharing & venting can make a world of difference on how I am feeling. You are not alone. I think we all go through some time of depression in our lives.... I hope today is a better day for you! you in are my thoughts..

I myself have battled depression for nearly 10 years and have contemplated suicide many times. I had a breakdown in the summer of last year and had to be cared for by my mum and dad with regular support from my local mental health authority. I never thought I would pull myself through but with the help of my doctor, councilers, family and friends, I made it. You need the support of your family and friends and work with your doctor to find the right medication to help lift you out of the terrible state of depression you are in right now. My friend I am here for you if you need some guidance or advice or indeed a shoulder to cry on. Do not suffer in silence, we are all here for you. I feel for all of you who are dealing with it as there are so many truly wonderful things to experience in this life and depression is like putting a coat of mud over everything. I have been extremely depressed for quite some time now. I haven't found an antidepressant that works for me. I was on wellbutrin for a few years but it stopped working. I've tried other meds but can't handle the side affects. I don't know if the fact that I spend a lot of time isolated and lonely is adding to my depression or if my depression is what causes me to isolate. I haven't lived in the town I'm in for very long so I don't really know anyone. It sucks. But, for my children. grandchildren and husband's sake, I keep putting one foot in front of the other and just hope that one day I will feel happy again. _________________________ CHANGE IS COMING IN 14 DAYS! YIPPEE!!

"Weariness with life"...wow, i can so relate. Am both physically and mentally sick here. Having HIV and being diagnosed as bi-polar/manic depressive, losing everything I had in my life....my home, my car, both of my dogs...well you could imagine...been on all of the major anti-depressants, they didn't help me at all. I'm a very proud person, you know one that "don't take no [censored]"...chin up kind of guy, but after awhile your face kinda gets tired, lol. The very fact that I can sit here and type this message is an outlet to a road yet unventured. I will continue to strive forward (yeah, a cliche)....stay positive..look, you'll find. Soon as spring comes I feel like a new person! While living in AZ for many years, never got depressed since its warm and sunny every day. Anyone else relate to this? Or is it just me?

In Phoenix, we get 300+ days of sun. It has made a dramatic difference in my life. When I lived in Chicago, I used to suffer terrible depression in the winter. Had to sit under a sunlamp as prescribed by my Doctor and its affect was insignificant. The antidepressants did absolutely nothing if not made matters worse. There's much truth to the malady of SAD. It helps you sleep like a rock. It is funny though I missed NYC's rainy days in AZ. It only rains (monsoon) 5-10 times a year. Sometimes taking certain supplements and eating the right foods can help a little. Imagine living north of the artic circle and having to go through months of darkness. They suffer severe depression up there. I think the natives use fish oils (Vitamin D) to stay healthy.
