I'm having such a horrible time with my sleep problem it isn't even funny anymore. I called my Dr. office and the nurse on-call told me to go to the ER! FOR WHAT? Then I'm afraid I'll be shoved off like I have so many other times, either with something stupid like Rozerem, or being told that I need to find something to lessen my stress. #1, my only stress is my sleeping issue and #2, I've been meditating for 13 years so it's not my ability to calm my mind. To make a long story short, this has been going on with me for YEARS. I do have Fibromyalgia, so I know that plays a part in it. Last year I had a sleep study done. But since it was done the DAY I got out of the hospital from having surgery, of course I slept well since they drugged the hell out of me before I left, and gave me some percocet to take for the pain. So I don't feel my sleep study was accurate. All they said they found was some very light snoring. Well sure, the perc's knocked me out and I was able to fall asleep! I can't fall asleep for the life of me now!
So what the hell do I do now? Besides sit patiently and wait for an order to come in from overseas. I can't sleep and it's really starting to affect me to the point where I feel ill. Maybe that's why they told me to go to the ER? I have no clue.
Any ideas? Anyone? I would greatly appreciate them.

Have you tried Ambian? Taken with a FULL glass of water on an empty stomach sure works for me.

Btw, most doctors will prescribe Ambian as its supposed to be non-addictive. GOOD LUCK!

I am in the same boat as you because of my Vicodin w/d's: I hope I can sleep tonight without my sleeping pills: I pray everything works out for you and maybe some of the other posters can help you with this problem (and me) You are not alone here and there are some very nice people on this forum.

I hope that works for you tonight: I am again going to try to tough it out with no sleep meds and I am very tired. By the way my friends (nurses etc)think it is not possible that I am not laying down on the ground dying from the w/d's and are really scaring me!

I have had insomnia since I was a child, and I have never had a problem getting help from the doctor. I would definitely recommend changing doctors.

There's a trick with ambien:
If it's generic ambien, chew it up in your mouth just a tad, so that it absorbs better. Ambien generic is much weaker in my opinion than the brand version. I don't think it's the amount of actual medication in the generic vs. name brand, but the type of binders they use to hold things together. I took Ambien for over a year and then switched over to Ambien Cr, but while my insurance was playing games with the doctor, they put me on Ambien and of course Walgreen's gave me the generic. I didn't think anything at first, but it wasn't working and unlike the name brand, it is very hard to dissolve. The name brand almost melts in your mouth, and that's important because the medication needs to hit you fast or it won't work.
Another thing is that for whatever reason, Ambien won't work during the daytime (for me at least), so take it when you start to feel tired, crush it up swallow it go lay down. You should fall asleep. This also works the same way with the Cr.
Also, make sure you don't eat anything fattening or high calorie 2 hours before bedtime. It really does make a huge difference.
And lastly, if my doc told me to go to the emergency room for a sleep problem when he could fully treat me by calling something in, I'd be looking for a different doctor! Either he doesn't want to help you out (spend a few minutes calling something in), or he doesn't want to deal with the issue at hand. I've had doctors in the past like this and they're a nightmare..

I took 4 sleeping pills last night versus 6 the previous night and I was able to go to sleep but I am worried about becoming dependent on them.
74 hours since I took a pain pill!(my back is still really hurting me and no chemical help)

What type sleeping pill...Brand name or chemical name. I need that information before I will feel like I can say anything with any relevance.

oh i feel for you, I have had that for years, and no help. We only have zopiclone (lunesta) here in canada but after seeing a relative struggle horribly with addiction to zopiclone, I said no to the doctor and just lived with it because I figure I want to live, not sleep.
But I did find something that does help, magnesium and calcium do help but your system has to be clean, and if you have an addiction to ambien, what you are going through is withdrawal syndrome, and nothing will help you sleep when you go through that. A vicious circle, in my opinion, and unless you can be assured of a supply of sleeping pills for the rest of your life, you will have to go through this withdrawal time and time again, in addition to probably shelling out a lot of money for pills. You are the boss of you, you can decide what is best for yourself.

The standard dose of temezepam is 20 to 30 mg. a night at bedtime. There is brand name Restoril and Normison jellies which come in 2 dose sizes. 10 and 20 mg. egg shaped liquid gel caps.

Thanks: I am taking more than the recommended dose because of my quiting the pain pills.
Where can you get the pills you were talking about? Is Temzepam a strong pill?

Are you sure you are taking Restoril for sleep? It does not come in doses as small as 1 mg. That sounds more like a dosage for a benzo. Being in opiate withdrawals can often cause confusion and disorientation. Please be careful with what you are taking to help with your sleep problem.

You will be ok. As long as you sleep before the 6th and seventh days, as that's when you fall apart mentally and physically. I ME I have gone three times with absolutely no sleep(no catnaps no 15 here 15 there) ,one time, after the death of my mother it was 12 days before I had ANY SLEEP. Try to see if you can get some sleep by the fourth day, if you do not sleep on night 4, go to ER of a real hospital, not a country hospital, not an urgent care facility; go to the best hospital in your area. early in the morning, and tell them everything. Trust me if you make it to day 7 the voices will start, and that's the easy stuff, then all of your senses will be off, and you (can)will become depersonalized like you are living in a movie(and sometimes those feelings will stay with you after sleep, and you could end up, well, a mess.

Temazepam is a benzo, but as you say they come in 20mg and 30mg strengths usually. Perhaps Restoril is being confused with Rivotril; I've seen that a few times.

Amen to the w/d confusion: I meant 15mg Temzepam.
88 hours without the pain pills and counting! Again the withdrawals are difficult but not as bad as I thought except for the sleeping part.

Hi all,
This is just my opinon and what works for me, due to the fact I have a serious problem sleeping. I tried Ambien -- did not work for me. So what I did was get a rx. from the dr. for Trazodone 100mg. You can cut them 1/2. I know 100mg. sounds like alot, and you take it just before bedtime.
I switch off and on Trazodone to zanax 1mg.
I hope I helped, but this is only my experience.
Peace,
fisher

Hi again!
Forgot to put this in my post. Sonata is another option to try to sleep.
Once again, just my 2 cents worth!

Why are you asking me where to get what you already have. Temazepam or Restoril. I have both but prefer the Normison jellies 20 mg. All the same medicine, just different names. You ought to give Mogadon a shot. It is a benzo, nitrazepam, and is strong, long acting, and good. Have to order from India or Turkey. So that can translate into Indianmeds4u.com from India or Mailpharma.com from Turkey
